World of Wheels Amateur Sectional
Event Recap By - Ted Crandall

August 8 Springville, NY
The last Am sectional of the year for the ASA kicked off just outside Buffalo NY at World Of Wheels skatepark. This family owned and operated park in Springville is one of the finest places to skate. The indoor park is split into to two sections on one side they have a really big 4 foot bowl a spine 2 hips lots of quarters and a pyramid. On the other side where the contest was held they have a 11ft vert ramp, 3 6ft quarters, a 3ft mini ramp, a 3ft bank with a wallride, a 4ft tall 12ft wide launch box, a multi-level bauer box, and a pyramid. They are also in progress of building an outdoor street coarse as well. This unique street coarse made for some exciting lines and burly tricks. Saturday morning started out with some beautiful sunshine and skaters piling into the park bright and early at 9am. Its hard to believe these guys would get up early for anything on a Saturday. The bladers had about two hours to practice their individualistic lines and tricks. Thirty-one skaters in all entered into the comp. The contest started out with the future of our sport, the 12 and under skaters. These four shorty rocked kids tore up the coarse with frontside, backside, and soul grinds as well as some awesome spins. Coming out on top was Joe Meyer out of East Concord NY. Joe also skated vert and really tore it up taking 1st place on it as well in the 12 and under division. In the open division we had six competitors all challenging each other for first place. The roller that won it all however taking the top spot for both street and vert pulling rad lines and a ton of tricks is Josh Rath out of West Seneca NY. The expert division consisted of Twenty-one skaters hoping to grab one of the ten last spots left to qualify for the regional in Rutland VT. The skating definitely heated as the these skaters spun, grinded and aired all over this sick street coarse. One Rollerblader came out and threw down all and ripped through out his home coarse with smooth lines and burly tricks taking him to the top and winning the gold, local skater Lee Tater. On the Vert ramp 6 skaters pushed each other further trying to take the gold but Lee Tater was unstoppable taking both gold metals and the glory. In the woman's division two girls came out to show the guys "whats up" Katie Ketchum out of Hamburg NY and Leah Baun out of Buffalo NY. These two skaters tore up the coarse with some great runs coming out on top however was Katie Ketchum throwing down all kinds of smoothness.
