what went down at the BTB.

March 18 Joplin, Missouri
The BTB skatepark was the location for the ASA sectional event in Joplin, MO on March 18th. Upon arrival to this really down home type of park atmosphere, I chatted with the locals to find out what to expect for the next day. The locals seemed laid back. They spoke of last year's event and how well it turned out. The park is rad with a variety of ramps such as a three-foot launch box with a pyramid against it, a five foot quarter pipe that is 24 feet wide, a start rail and ledges, two 3 foot quarters forming a hip and a 24-foot wide bank as well as a Pepsi machine that got utilized during the event. The majority of the skaters came out of Kansas City in hopes of qualifying for the regional in Plano, TX at Eisenbergs. Thirteen competitors in the expert class all came on strong and tore up the street course in hopes of making the cut. Three competitors put together excellent runs. Eric Johnson out of Wichita, KS captured third. Toby Gilmore out of Wichita KS ripped and took second, while the man on the scene with style that was keen, Joseph Shull took home the gold and the glory. On another level the 12 and under class really rocked. Three kids from Springfield MO shredded the coarse. This class is where it's at! These kids went out and pulled anything they could and even tried some new tricks. Props go out to these up and coming guys. Ben Cambell pulled some sweet moves and took third. Joe Green also tweaked out some awesome moves to put him in second however, the skater that put it all together for the glory was none other than Greg Shultz.
