The ASA amateur sectional event held on May 14 was part of Wichita's Spring River Festival this year. This all day event held on Mother's Day turned out to be an awesome spectacle for the festival spectators. On Saturday May 14th, I got a taste of Wichita's festive activities. Walking around this enormous event I viewed hundreds of venders with all kinds of articles. Across the bridge was a carnival with tons of rides and lots of food. Tons of people come out for this weeklong event. Sunday started out to be a beautiful, but windy day. Skaters from all over Kansas came out to try to qualify for the regional event being held on July 1st in Plano, TX at Eisenbergs Skatepark. The festival brought over many spectators to get a glimpse of what these skaters do best. To start off the day the 12 and under guys came out and really displayed the talent the future skaters of this amazing sport have. These kids ripped up the coarse pulling tricks like front flips and 360's. Next up were the open class skaters, who stepped it up with some awesome linked tricks, great spins and a flip over a barrel. These guys had a blast ripping up the course for their runs. Finally, the expert division competed for qualifying spots to the regionals. These skaters were incredible, tearing up the course skating everything in the park including some windowsills and a fan that were utilized to stall upon during their runs.
