There has
been a lot crazy things going on in my life, like getting
married, moving the Las Vegas RealRide to Southern California.
The Skatebarn trip became a vacation in the northwest which
is what I needed to relax. I have been on many skating trips
the last few years. The novelty was starting to wear out,
until I stepped of the plane and realized how nice it is
to see where the kids that we skate with come from. The
SkateBarn is nestled away in the hills of Washington with
truly breathtaking 360 degree views . Inside the park was
like entering a different world. The world I wished I had
created in RealRide Salt Lake, Karma and Ed Suchan had it
right outside there apartment. The SkateBarn world is one
where everyone is welcome, board or blades you are treated
the same. Believe it or not the kids that skate there respect
100% everything that has been done for them. They all help
out behind the counter, clean and even help with the camps
and lessons. Karma a skater and an owner of the barn truly
made me realize something's that I forgot about what we
are doing here in the skating business. That we are here
to build and support the youth of the sport and have fun
the whole way through, and that is exactly what was happening.
The event was just as fun as the place I stayed for the
weekend. Showering in an outdoor home made shower and then
riding the horse drawn wagon to the barn was quite the experience.
Hah hah just kidding about the wagon. The comp had a impressive
turnout of about 45 skaters. Randy Juarez took 1st in vert
Eric Persson leading the the newcomer honors took 2nd in
expert vert at only nine years old. Bobby Tateishi took
a strong 3rd place whipping out an impressive new found
900 spin. Coming out of nowhere to take first in street
was the quick and stylish Kim Leck. Kim skated smooth and
creative lines packed with flawless tricks. Randy Juarez
took second with a crazy gap to soul grind and an almost
flawless run. The kids at the barn were so motivational
I even strapped on my skates and had some fun, oh yeah and
always Chris Baker continued his record run of always placing
in the top six, landing in the fourth. Special thanks to
Karma and Ed for creating a masterpiece, Bonnie for putting
me up and supplying cold beverages, and Mike Baker for his
continued on time long distance taxi service.
