May
6 Cincinnati, Ohio
Driving to Cincinnati was a fun drive for me and a few of
my crew. The trip took only three and a half hours in the
cash money ride, my new 2000 Accord. The radar detector
in my car worked smooth, with the new donut technology it
can smell a cop a mile away. Upon arrival via Highway 71
you come around a mountain and blam there's an awesome view
of the city. Arriving at the park, Rhonda, the owner of
Aggressive Sk8, opened the park and gave us a tour of the
facility. The shop in Aggressive Sk8 is killer and the park
is sick. The street course consists of a huge 44ft wide
quarter pipe 4ft tall just begging for sick switch-ups,
a 12ft wide launch box, a start bank with ledge, a Bauer
box and two roll-ins on each side of an eight foot quarter
pipe. As we set up, Shane Coburn of Mindgame made a guest
appearance and threw out some stickers while checking the
place out. After everything was set up, the park opened
and skaters started rolling in for practice. I could see
that evening that the contest was gonna be good. Wes Driver
of Daily Bread magazine was also there snapping off a few
shots at the park and on out on the street later that evening.
Street skating in Cincinnati definitely kicks. We skated
some sick handrails and ledges. Saturday, May 6th the day
of the event.
I showed up a little late due to some technical difficulties
with the shower and a bunch of lazy skaters, luckily skaters
hadn't started showing up yet. The contest went killer starting
off with the 12 and under first. These guys ripped, really
showing who the future of our sport is. Austin Hammonds
took first, with front flips and alley-oop backside grinds.
Next, up was the open division. In this class the skaters
stepped it up showing a little more technicality. Javers
Ketteler came out on top of this class. In the expert division,
"cash money" Chris ripped out a flawless 900 over the launch
box and took third, because he decided to give up on his
first run after falling on his first two tricks. Ron Copeland
put together a sick run packed full of linked tricks and
managed to take second. Creativity and style is what Tri
Rudolph is all about. He ripped up the park with the sickest
switch ups and most creative run I've seen to take home
the gold! Thanks for all who participated and congratulations
to all who qualified for regionals at Woodward.
