June
28 Woodward, PA
Friday June 28th the ASA Am circuit held the mid-Atlantic
regional at (The Cage) in the Woodward camp facility. The
Cage is a pro level B-3 coarse with most of the ramps 6
feet in height or higher making it bigger than what most
of the Am competitors are use to. However it didn't take
long for these top athletes from each sectional to really
step up their skills and push themselves and each other
to utilize this enormous street coarse. These ever progressing
lovers of the blades pulled tricks like 360 kindgrinds ,
true top souls, negative grinds, huge transfers, and really
crazy spins. Roughly 85 skaters in all competed showing
off their unique talents to try to grab a spot in the finals.
Leading the finalists out of the prelims was Richie Velasquez
with sick runs and trying one of the most insane tricks
I've ever witnessed a flat spin to top soul and locking
on but sticking and wiping out. The top fifteen finalists
moved indoors to Lot 8 for the final shakedown due to the
dismal weather outdoors. It may have been dismal outside
but it sure didn't feel like it inside with the top fifteen
bladers going off in this park with a myriad of different
tricks and lines. Making the advancement was tough only
the top ten athletes moved on to world championships. Immediately
after the finals the best trick contest got under way ten
guys from the finals gave it they're all to do the craziest
trick. Two guys tied for the winning spot. Richie Velasquez
with his unbelievable 360 to disaster fishbrain and Jesse
Meyers with his sick launch to stall 11 feet up on the roof
of the watchtower. The Vert comp was definitely insane as
well with only 16 competitors we went straight to the final.
Three competitors really stood out from the rest. Brandon
Fabiani tore up the ramp with some really technical skating
and took the bronze. While the Ambuehl brothers from Middle
Village, NY came out and pulled just about every trick in
the book without one spill, just amazing. Jeremia took the
silver while his bro Josua who added just a little more
amplitude went home with the gold. All in all the competition
was amazing really showing where the supreme sport of rollerblading
is headed for the future.
