The park in Grayslake, IL. is one of the best free public parks I have ever skated. The park is layed out very well, and has all aspects a good park should have. With this in mind you know that a good comp was going to go down. When I got to the park on Saturday, there were a few kids already skating and ready to sign up, but as things went on it seemed like it was going to be a pretty small comp, and then the rush came. By time we were ready to start we had almost 40 skaters ready to roll. Things started off with the 12 and under and you saw the battle in finals right in the first round. Chris Patton knocked Curian Allenstein out in the first round, but Curian fought his way back to meet Chris in finals, to take second with Chris going undefeated for first. David Demboski also came back through the skateback bracket to take third. In the open division the battle was on to who was going to face Matt Smith in the finals. Adam Ward was knocked out of the first round by Matt, but skated back to battle him in the finals. Adam successfully beat Matt twice to take first place, while Erik Sauer was able to grab third. The experts by this time had the course wired, and by the look of the warm-ups were going to go off. Some of the most progressive tricks, like a disaster truespin fishbrain on the bauer box and disaster truespin DARKSIDE topside pornstar on the box, I have seen all year were being thrown out like they were nothing. In the end it was Grant Schaap with his speed and style, not to mention flawless run, took home the gold. While Keith Musil went big and tech to take second, and John Murakami with his spins, switched his way up to third. For the women it was Kelly Lambeth busting out and taking first while Jaime M. took second.
