Turtle's Extreme Weekend 4

Turtle's Extreme Weekend 4 was held at Stone Edge Skate Park in South Daytona Florida, February 22, and 23, 1997. This event was produced by Mark "Turtle" Rich and operated by ASA Professional Skaters from all over the country, in a theme of Skaters for Skaters . The contestants were given two one minute runs based on a one hundred point scale. Both runs were added together and the highest total won.

The attendance was down because of the terrible weather report which called for 100% rain, wind, and 50 degree temp. The 105 skaters welcomed the 75 degree clear and sunny weather, and one windy front around 5:00 p.m. Because of the attendance we gave the skaters a full minute to complete theirruns, and ran the show in a very relaxed manor. Jackson Somphonphakdy came out on top of the street division, with his impressive rocket fishbrain up the wedge and up onto the block wall. This trick can be hazardous to your health, because if you do not make it, you will fall 10 feet and be out of the park. Just ask A. J. Jackson!

Sunday was more good weather for the vert competition. 11 year old Kyle Crandall pulled off two flawless runs and landed his 720 McTwist at the end. The judges and the crowed went wild and broke all my clip boards. That's O.K. it was worth it. Big props go out to two time Vert Champ Bill Benedict who stole the show and won with a big margin. Bill also placed 4th. in the street which makes him an excellent all round skater.

Special thanks go to A.J. Jackson, Ray Mendez, Eddie Campos, Rawlinson Rivera, Viorel Popa, Matt Lindenmuth, Tyler Shields, Dave Kollasch, and Jeff Laretto for coming out and running the show. This show could not be as good as it is without them.
