Munich
Germany - August 8, 2000
The YOZ (Youth Only Zone) Games took place in Munich, Germany
and included only a small contingent of four American skaters.
Jon Julio, Jaren Grob, Dustin Latimer and Kevin Gillan were
the four who made the trip all the over to Germany. Jon
and Jaren were the only two who were able to break into
the obviously European dominated final and they ended up
in 4th and 5th places respectively. It was however a European
show and they took their rightful places atop the medal
podium. In third place was Bruno Lowe from Munich, Germany
followed by Anthony Mackie out of Northwich, England. The
number one spot, to no one's surprise went to the hottest
skater on the tour this year, Sven Boekhorst. Filling out
the rest of the top ten on street was Samo Bajec in 6th,
Thierry Lallemand in 7th, Marc Dubied in the 8th spot, Martina
Svobodova in 9th and Alexis Ecija in 10th.
Instead of
holding the typical Vert contest. The YOZ Games was the
second stop on the Pro Tour to feature a bowl competition.
A
bowl is a little different than a vert ramp, but the results
are still the same. Eito and Takeshi Yasutoko again took
the top two spots. Eito in first and Takeshi in second.
Taig Khris was able to capture third place away from Manuel
Billiris in fourth. Young Tobias Bucher skated well enough
to beat out the great Cesar Mora by a half point for 5th
place. Although Sven is an unstopable force on street he
has proven to be human on the vert ramp, coming up a little
short in 7th place. Jaren Grob, the lone American in the
bowl field took the 8th spot, followed by Matteo Attanasio
in 9th and Franck Rodulfo in 10th. The bowl competition
even saw the return
to competition by veteren Rene Hulgreen out of Cpenhagen,
Denmark who took 11th.
