Brian
Shima
Brian
Shima is just like you in that he loves to roll all the time, yet
he's not quite like anyone, for he does it differently. Brian is completely
unique. From the way he dresses, talks and skates to the friends he
chooses and the music he listens to, he is completely genuine. Rarely
will you find anyone who is not influenced by others, but defines
his own way of living and skating.
Why will Brian
take over the world of pro skating? Because, not only does he skate
fast and go big, but he is also creative and innovative in ways that
only a select few are. Like Jon Julio, Brian looks at a street course
and sees possibilities that others don't. He sees a street while others
see ramps. Because he skates real street so huge, the tricks he chooses
in a competition run are just another day in his life of picking new
unheard of lines. That is exactly how he became the 1998 ASA Amateur
Street Champion in Las Vegas.
Why
will he still be ruling long after most pro skaters have lost their
magic? Simply because he's smart and loyal. He took his time in deciding
on his sponsors and was not driven by money. He skates for Razor's,
Urban Tech and Fifty/50 and while he could be making more cash skating
for the latest stockbroker's side project, he has created for himself
an environment where he can skate with his friends and not lose sight
of his roots. Brian Shima wasn't part of the "cool trick club", when
he started, but it doesn't matter because he's the leader of it now.
