Most
times if you see a 46 year old man at a skate comp, you
would assume that he's there supporting his kids. If that
man were Ron Leck, you'd only be partially right. The thing
that would surprise you about him is that he would also
be competing. Yeah you heard me, competing. We met Ron at
the ASA Amateur Sectional competition at Eisenbergs skate
park in Plano, Texas. Ron is a rarity in this sport, for
sure. Ron, a father of three, who builds golf courses for
a living was 25 years older than the next oldest competitor.
His first competition was at The Sea Otter Classic, in Monterey,
California a couple years ago, and he's not done yet. Ron
says he definitely has plans to compete more whenever a
competition is nearby. Doesn't his wife think he's crazy,
you ask? Actually, Ron's wife gives him nothing but support;
she loves what he's doing. When asked about his dream accomplishment
in the sport, he says that he'd love someday to do a backflip
on a vert ramp. In fact he's even tried it once before,
but broke two fingers and hurt his hip in the attempt.
Listen
to Ron explain how he got started.
