Matthew McWhirter is the ASA featured amateur for this issue of SESSION. Matthew has been skating for 2, 
almost 3 years now. He can pull mistrials, alley-oop fishbrains, the occasional sweatstance and just about all the other tricks we see in the magazines and videos. The coolest part of this is that Matthew is four years old. Matthew will be starting school in another year. For now all he likes to do is skate. Matt admitted that he likes to play Nintendo -the shooting games, when he is not at the park or on the street. Skating is his primary form of entertainment, though. He goes out with his 'crew,' his father, brothers and their friends. His parents support his activities, as long as it doesn't affect his future schooling. I told Matt that I had been skating and all he said was, "I'm better." This guy is four, and he really is better than I am. He is better than many people are, so when I asked him about future sponsorships and competitions he said he was definitely interested (after making sure it was ok with his father). He intends on competing in the future. As long as he is in school he can take skating as far as possible. Matt looks like he has a future in here, so look out for this Cathedral City, California resident on the streets.
