on's girlfriend is currently ranked number one on the ASA pro tour (Jon is 11th in Men's Street). Fabiola da Silva, who is in Brazil for the holidays, met Jon in Lausanne. Azikiwee says they are great together, "They don't bring business into the relationship." They met at Lausanne and began expressing interest in each other. One thing led to another, and now they see each other almost every day. Jon says Fabiola has never felt pressure to ride for any of his companies, from him or otherwise. "She has her own thing and that is cool," he says. Their future has yet to reveal itself to anyone, since Jon knows he is too young to settle down. "I want to skate until I'm 40, and I am too involved in the industry to quit travelling and focus on a family." He still lives at home because he is always on the road.
Jon has considered moving out, but he just does not have time right now. It may happen soon, but that is not his first priority. "I would like to own a house. It is looking that way," he says. For now his parents don't mind him coming and going. His friends are around all the time, or Jon is on the road. Jon enjoyed Thanksgiving and will be there for a large family Christmas gathering this year. He is leaving this weekend for Chicago to go to Scrap. He has been there the last two years and it was really cool. "It is like a big session, there is a comp but it is a chance for skaters to see each other in the offseason."
So as Jon relaxes for the holidays and pounds his coffee, he is still working hard to keep everything going. Runner's Project will be up for Christmas (www.Runnersproject.com). He is designing his skate for USD called the Grycon and still has a video to edit. He will be getting up in the morning to ride his stationary bike and thinking about how to improve the skating industry. We are lucky to have a guy like Jon Julio so involved in skating. Without skaters like him, who knows where we would be. Azikiwee Anderson concluded appropriately, "Jon Julio is the personification of style and independence throughout our industry."
Jon also would like to thank all of the NorCal crew like Jason Reduta, Robert Gurrero and John Starr along with all the other skaters in 408 and Milpitas. Of course Fabiola da Silva and Azikiwee Anderson as well as Suki, Jess Dyrenforth, Ethan Jenkin, Scott Walker, Joel Thackmar and Jason Guzman. USD, England, Fifty/50 and Synergy are also on the props list. I would like to thank Azikiwee and Jess for their input into one of the industries best role models and skaters: Jon Julio.
