2000 Pro Tour - Louisville Vert
Event Recap - By Todd Shays
Louisville, Kentucky - April 14, 2000
World Champions Cesar Mora and Fabiola da Silva spent some time in Orange County, California the last couple of weeks hanging out with Mike Budnik and skating at the local park every day. Those daily sessions paid off as all three finished in the top five at the Louisville vert comp. Mike Budnik won his first ever ASA Pro Tour vert contest by putting all his tricks together. His clean consistent technical grinds included a frontside torque and x grinds, two tricks he hadn't pulled before at ASA events. Cesar Mora also had a couple of the best runs of the day, but he had some problems with consistency and didn't put it together as well as Budnik.

Fabiola da Silva had a great day. After the first run she was in third place ahead of most of the men in the field. Only Marc Englehart had what it took to take that spot from her in his second run. Marc stepped up in his second run with a forward 1080 as part of his super clean run that impressed the judges enough to land him in third place. Fabiola took advantage of the ASA's new women's rules, placing fourth against the men and earning prize money for that spot.

Some of the other women didn't have as solid a day. The ramp in Louisville was huge - 56 feet wide and 12 feet high with 18 inches of vert. Katie Brown came out to her first pro event of the year with enough tricks to take second place in the women's competition.

This event was part of ESPN's B3 which also featured the Bicycle Stunt Series and World Cup Skateboarding. The event was held at the river front during "Thunder over Louisville" the largest fireworks show in the country. Street prelims were held on Saturday with finals scheduled for Sunday.
