1999 Pro Tour - Toronto Vert
Event Recap - By Colby Era

Toronto, Canada - September 5, 1999
The Men's Vert Finals in Toronto, Ontario were very competitive and entertaining. Canada provided some interesting spectators and the Tour provided some excellent skaters. Eito Yasutoko, who won the X-Games this year, came away with the win. Eito and his younger brother Takeshi have been duking it out all year on the ASA vert ramps. Sixteen-year-old Eito wowed Canada with his massive Lui-Kangs' and huge spins over the deck. He finished the regular season ranked ninth overall and will be seen next in the ASA World Championships in Fort Myers, Florida and the Gravity Games in Rhode Island.

Takeshi always proves actions speak louder than words with a stylish backslide across the coping. >>

As far as the sibling rivalry is concerned, Takeshi had more technical coping tricks in Toronto. He came up with a long alleyoop sweatstance on the coping and nailed a backslide on the opposite end of the ramp. Eito managed to go bigger, but Takeshi is known for the intensity of his airs. The thirteen-year-old younger brother came out of Toronto with a third place finish. He finished out the year ranked second on the ASA Pro Tour behind the Australian Stallion Cesar Mora.

<< Cesar tries to relax as all eyes focus on him before his run.

Cesar had a rough day in Canada. He said the ramp was a little bit smaller than what he was used to. It was not quite as big as the ASA 'mobile halfpipes' that were used in Milwaukee and Boulder, Colorado earlier in the season. Cesar still pulled a 1080 and some amazing tricks but he fell a couple of times, which affected his overall score. Keep in mind that Cesar was the first skater to nail a fakie 1260 (see Boulder) and has recently been busting giant backflips and spins. Toronto was just an off day for Mora. He will still be going into the World Championships and Gravity Games ranked as the best vert skater in the world.
